Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
